Justice Jay Sengupta set aside the promulgation of Section 144 of CrPC by the district administration at Sandeshkhali in West Bengals North 24 Parganas, holding that the manner in which it was done was not right.

The Calcutta high court on Tuesday set aside the promulgation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC at Sandeshkhali, which has been witnessing protests over the last one week.

Kolkata/IBNS/UNI: The oppositions-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), CPI(M) and Congress-on Tuesday intensified their movement separately on the Sandeshkhali issue in Bengal where the women were allegedly being tortured by some TMC local leaders, even as Calcutta High Court set aside the prohibitory order imposed by the state administration under section 144 Cr PC at the troubled-torn area in North 24 Parganas, official sources said.

Justice Sengupta had said that the ED's prayer for a single agency, the CBI, to probe the attack was not being allowed at this stage and can be considered later on the basis of how the investigation progresses
