After initially being delayed and then cancelled altogether last year due to the pandemic, prom returns this Saturday night to Mid-Prairie High School with a theme of “Slow Dancing in a Parking Lot.”
Principal Jay Strickland says the students’ enthusiasm for prom to be back is very evident, but the excitement has extended to the community as well, “Last spring was really difficult for everyone with everything being halted and cancelled, everything being closed up, so I think it’s been good for people to slowly be able to get back in the swing of things and some of these longtime traditions and events to come back. I think it’s been great.”
Two principal hires down and one to go for the Mid-Prairie School District.
The school board last week approved the hiring of Greg Jergens to become the new principal at East Elementary. Superintendent Mark Schneider says Jergens is currently a fourth grade teacher in the Iowa Valley School District and has been teaching for 21 years. He was selected from about 20 applicants to replace Robin Foster, who will be the new principal for West Elementary after Bill Poock submitted his resignation effective at the end of the school year to become Director of Teaching and Learning at the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.
