Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency officials were praised for earning national recognition during the most recent CRPA Advisory Board meeting.
Athletics Coordinator Camille Thomas, Parks Division Director Jordan Wood, Recreation Division Director Frankie Sanders and Athletics Division Director Shawn Schumacher recently earned their Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification from the National Recreation and Park Association.
âThe CPRP exam is a rigorous program and consists of a 125 question exam that assesses the core knowledge of job-related tasks,â Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency Director Jay Worley said. âAttaining the designation shows that those individuals have met education and experience qualifications, and illustrated commitment to the profession, as well as the knowledge and understanding of key concepts in the field.â
As the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency continues to move forward with its development of the Southwest Cherokee Parks and Trails plan, the CRPA Advisory Board heard the latest updates on the plan at its most recent meeting.
Community Services Agency Director Bryan Reynolds said there are four parcels of land being considered as part of the plan, three of which are owned by a family and the fourth being under control of the Cherokee County School District. Three of the four pieces of property are located south of Ga. Highway 92 in the vicinity of Clark Creek Elementary School, while the fourth is located at the intersection of Old Alabama Highway and Kellogg Creek Road. As part of the study, Reynolds said participants had the ability to share their thoughts on what they would like to see be developed in the area.
