coal country in the united states. west virginia where donald trump won by more than 40 points. get that, 40 points. over hillary clinton. so do the locals there believe this means their jobs are coming back? mariana is down in charleston, west virginia. what are they telling you? so, president trump signed this executive order rolling back key obama administration environmental protections, hoping that that will bring coal mining jobs back to west virginia. here in charleston we spoke to someone whose family has been in the coal mining business for generations, and this is what he told us. let s listen. do you think president trump can actually bring coal mining jobs back? i do. i definitely do think he can bring coal mining jobs back, just by lifting the regulations. there are a lot of hungry people out there. i watched it go from a boom town to ghost town just taking coal away, especially from the small towns. like i said, it brings money,
framework of environmental rules and regulations that protect our very ability to breathe clean air and drink clean water are at risk. in addition to those fundamental principles and fundamental standards that i think we all enjoy as americans, there are 6 million americans that are employed by the clean energy economy. these are real jobs, real people in real places that suddenly are being left out of this presidential set of opportunities. rhea, the white house spokesman, sean spicer, a moment ago said the president doesn t believe it is a binary choice, there, clean air, clean water, environmental protections but also coal mining jobs. i certainly don t think it is a binary choice as is evidenced by the fact that there are these 3 million jobs that are clean energy jobs out there right now with the environmental protections that we all enjoy as americans. i think the challenges that the
people who only want to be able to do their jobs, provide for their families and give power to this country. candidate donald trump had nothing but love for coal miners. but as president, he is sending a very different message with his latest policies. among the things on the chopping block in trump s new budget, the appalachian regional commission or arc which approves grants for hinges like infrastructure, community health initiatives and revitalizing communities affected by the loss of coal mining jobs. he is literally hurting the very people who elected him. according to reuters, 400 of the 420 counties that arc operates in voted for trump. after proposed budget cuts like this and trumpcare, will they now have buyer s remorse? jimmy williams joins me, krystal ball and perry bacon jor. pbj, you re a kentucky native.
weeds and sticks to the top line about how big and beautiful and wonderful his plan is going to be not dissimilar when he went to west virginia promising to bring coal mining jobs back without explaining how he would do it. while everyone coalesced around repeal, president trump doesn t have a vision for the plan and what he said is out of line for republicans. he believes in health care for all americans and won t touch entitlements. everybody sit tight. up next, more health care debate including some trump loyalists who say this is speaker ryan s problem and speaker ryan needs to go.
