Wilhelm: Gibsonburg to reach 150th birthday this year
Roy Wilhelm
The Village of Gibsonburg is reaching something of a 150th birthday this year.
Although the village wasn’t incorporated until 1880, the village’s namesake, W. H. Gibson, and T.D. Stevenson and J. F. Yeasting platted and named the community in August 1871.
Gibson was a brevetted brigadier general of the Union Army’s 49th volunteer infantry during the Civil War.
The 10th of 11 children to John and Jeannette Coe Gibson, he basically was a lifetime resident of Seneca County, having moved there with his family at the age of 4 months after his father had purchased 320 acres from the federal government.
