Canton residents learn more about buyers club for renewably generated electricity

Jeff Domanski, community choice aggregation (community solar) specialist, of Hudson Valley Energy, talked about how such programs might fit with Canton’s overall sustainability goals at the April 6 meeting. The village, like other local municipalities including the Town of Potsdam, is researching ways and companies to set up community choice aggregation to allow local residents to participate in what is essentially a buyers club for renewably generated electricity. Through the program, municipalities contract with companies which handle the administrative side of the buyer’s club on behalf of the town, managing bids and contracts for energy purchases and working with community solar suppliers and National Grid, a

Monday, April 5, 2021 - 5:27 pm CANTON The village of Canton is hosting an online Zoom presentation regarding a community choice aggregation program which would allow local residents to choose where the electricity they consume is being produced. “The village is considering the idea of Community Choice Aggregation, with the goal of having more say in where our electrical energy comes from, and ultimately saving money and lessening our carbon footprint,” said Village Trustee Klaus Proemm. At the village’s April 6 Canton Sustainability Committee meeting an CCA info presentation will be offered at 5 p.m. by Jeff Domanski, Hudson Valley Energy, and Jennifer Perry, ANCA/NYSERDA.

(Photo by Michael Bowman) Trustees Pedlosky and Mechaley will not run for new terms Nelsonville officials this week dismantled a shanty in the village woods and laid plans for a March election that promises to bring two new faces to the Village Board. At the board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 19), Mayor Mike Bowman said that a resident reported a hideaway in the village-owned Nelsonville Woods that appeared to contain evidence that it was being used for drinking and drug use. “We went up and checked it and dismantled it,” the mayor said, although “probably a good 10-yard Dumpster’s worth of garbage” remained. “It’s going to take kind of a Herculean effort to pull this stuff out.”
