The Jefferson City Lady Jays entered the final event of the Class 4 track and field state championships at Adkins Stadium with 41 points and in fourth place in the team standings. With the Lady Jays three points ahead of the Festus Lady Tigers for the final team trophy position, their 4x400-meter relay team of Cheria Galbreath, Riley Schonhardt, Victoria Smith and Ella Showers just needed to finish within one place of the Lady Tigers in the event to secure their first top-four finish at the state meet on the girls side since 2016. Galbreath, Schonhardt, Smith and Showers did one better, finishing one place ahead of Festus in the relay with a seventh-place time of 4:04.69. All that was left following the relay was receiving the trophy and the celebration that ensued.
