Covering the election charades in Arizona and Florida In Arizona, the 2020 election still isn’t over. Well, it The Arizona audit (or, as some have called it, “fraudit”) has been a tough story for practical reasons, too—journalists have been barred from the room. On day one, Jen Fifield, a reporter at the Arizona Capitol Times, likewise tried to get in as an observer, but was escorted off the premises; she was told first that her registration hadn’t gone through, then that she needed...

May 6, 2021 10:30 a.m. The U.S. Justice Department has its eyes on the shady “audit” of 2020 election results in Arizona’s largest county. The audit of Maricopa County, which contains the majority of the state’s population and voted by a slight margin for Joe Biden in 2020, hasn’t smelledright for weeks: It was commissioned by the GOP-controlled state Senate over the objections of the county. It’s being performed by a contractor whose CEO promoted wild conspirac...

Ross D. Franklin/AP Donald Trump’s effort to overturn his loss in the 2020 election was a cocktail of equal parts ridiculousness and menace. On the one hand, a sitting president actively encouraged efforts to destroy American democracy — including an attack on the US Capitol. On the other hand, the Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference was a thing that happened. So it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that, months after Joe Biden won the 2020 election and was sworn in as presiden...
