Welcome everybody. I am the co founder and just briefly we have been here now almost two years. It grew out of an annual conference that we do call personal Democracy Forum which is focused on how technology is changing government and we been doing it since 2004. We have traveled similar paths for a long time. Two years ago we opened this to be a yearround gathering point for the people in conversations focused on civic tech. How tech can be used for the public good. Its a pleasure to welcome everybody here. Let me just say i am really excited for the chance to get into this conversation about rules revolutionaries and how big organizing can change everything. We are living in a very unusual time. It isnt just the moment after the election. We are living in an age where participation in politics is possible at the scale of millions. Its a very confusing thing to experience and a lot of us are right in the middle of that moment now, asking what why do, and the confusion comes from the f
To provide very clear language on voter eligibility. When we do it on paper now we have to check those boxes under penalty of perjury, yes im a citizen and eligible and im filling out this form thats true and correct and so that language is going to be glaring for people going through new motor voter just as an extra caution. We are also through automatic Voter Registration providing serials in the nine languages other than english required in california under the federal Voting Rights act and we are able to do that because as i describe in a minute were sort of doing it as a counter, a pointofsale at dmv. Look at this in oregon for those of you taking detailed notes. In oregon the way it works is after people come to the dmv to do their business, they are sent a letter after the fact saying we captured your information, youre going to be registered unless you tell us otherwise and by the way, since government cant pick a Political Party for you, check box if you like and return this f
Sexes them or racism. I am curious when we find the situation is a people are restricted to free speech zones we dispelled as if we were targeted and told to be restricted to the free speech zone for the advertising for an event we had coming and others had not been for their evens. But we also find for putting up signs it and unfair manner because some of them and it turned out the Young Americans for liberty was an organization to be signed up for the weekend and we have to pay this time for leaving the signed up over the weekend we have to figure out another way. And luckily ive was there lehr being infringed upon and we ended up contacting fire to have this handled in a due process like manner before we had a fine imposed upon this. How do we turn this tide had be turned that tide moving forward . Mind standing is we have good success it has been successful and correct me if i am wrong but to my understanding that regard to public universities have found that restricting free speec
I have a fear of god and were told thats the beginning of wisdom. I got a long way to go, but thats the beginning. [ applause ] he finishes his article. He says at the heart of the problem is confusion over the nature of the transgender sex change is biologically impossible. You hear that . This is what one transgenders sex surgery victim says is guy who knows more about transgender. Hes saying sex change is biologically impossible. People who undergo reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. They become feminized men or masculinized women claiming this is civil rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder. When i was interviewing him, i said well the new dsmv the diagnostic statistical manual that over the years it changed and evolves and it has what is the accepted diagnoses that a physician can prescribe or list. And theyve changed this mental disorder of transgender to the term transgen
Very exciting. Automatic registration, what is it . It represents a paradigm shift as we register voters. For the first time in a meaningful way, the government takes the responsibility to inshore that all eligible citizens are on the role if they want to be. For the first time, the right to vote for the first time for the first time, the right to vote is made. We move past the paper and airfield records that clog our system to harness the digital revolution to transfer the information and make the lists real or for the lifetime of the voter. It is a big deal. Nationwide. Nted this would add 50 Million People rolls. It would cost less and it would curb the potential for fraud and abuse and error. It solves the problems of left and right. It is a breakthrough and it is happening, and all of you has so much to do with it, and we are for all of you for being a part of it. It is the wave of the future, but not only the future. It is happening as we speak. Of you know, over the last 1. 5 ye
