Television report and it comes on and a young buddy says we feel like we are living in a war zone. And felt like we need an organization. First we have to see what is happening here. When you are sick, surgery is required. The operation is to unite ourselves. And the uniting point would be saving the youth. We utilize our ability and economic input to help existing organizations in the community. That is the bases of it. You write about a lot of athletes having charities and foundations because your tax break wasnt high. It is easy and cool to give out turkey and give out school items. But what are we doing on the 95 bases . My position now is the way the world is now we are not on this every day, 24 7, man, i got to worry about my children. I have four boys and my baby is four years old. I know there is work to do and work has to be done. You have to be courageous and get out of the way. If you are not willing to stand n oon the things and principles that need to be stood on right now
Mrs. Young is a historian and independent scholar who previously taught at princeton university. [applause]. Scenic good evening and thanks for coming out tonight. I thank you for that introduction, which does a nice job of setting up my talk for today. This project began as a dissertation when i was at columbia. I went to graduate school to be a 19th century southern history historian, so i was a bit surprised to find myself writing about a barely recent historical moment. As i was in graduate school during the george w. Bush years a lot of historians were asking questions about how to explain the bush presidency. In particular, the promise of religious social conservativism and there was kind of a first wave of historiography coming out about the religious right and it tended to make this argument that religious conservatives became a unified political constituency in the 1970s and 80s, basically around these questions of abortion and issues of equal rights in the 70s and so this was
