Free agency is only a few days away.
The Giants still have work to do between now and then to clear out more cap space, at least if they intend to make any free agent signings of note this year.

Most of their free agency class from 2020 had ties to the Giants staff.
General manager Dave Gettleman drafted cornerback James Bradberry with the Panthers. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham coached linebacker Blake Martinez and edge Kyler Fackrell with the Packers. Judge coached safety Logan Ryan with the Patriots, and crossed paths with running back Dion Lewis, safety Nate Ebner and tackle Cam Fleming in New England, too.

Defensive line coach Sean Spencer was defensive tackle Austin Johnson’s coach at Penn State. Special teams coach Thomas McGaughey knew kicker Graham Gano from Carolina.

By the end of the 2020 season, New York Giants head coach Joe Judge, who famously refused to mention starting quarterback Daniel Jones by name when he first arrived in East Rutherford, not only became happy to talk about the second-year signal-caller, he also went out of his way on more than one occasion to sing Jones’ praises.
Whether that was simply a confidence-boosting tactic, Jude being sincere, or a combination of both, the Giants head coach affirmed that Jones is going to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2021, no questions asked.

Dave Gettleman has made at least one splashy free agent signing in each offseason since he became the Giants general manager in 2018, sometimes more than one.
In 2018, he signed left tackle Nate Solder to a four-year, $62 million deal which hasn’t exactly paid dividends.
In 2019, he signed wide receiver Golden Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million deal that most would consider a failure.
In 2020, he signed cornerback James Bradberry (three years, $43.5 million) and linebacker Blake Martinez (three years, $30 million) to big contracts, and both signings were absolute home runs.

If you couldn’t believe that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett settled for the New York Giants offensive coordinator job last season you won’t believe this either.
Although Garrett will stay, there will be some changes to the Giants offensive staff, among them the possibility of internal alterations when it comes to the responsibilities of those currently on staff. Increased responsibility for quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens is possible.
This was the expected outcome with Garrett despite the Giants offensive struggles, especially after the coaching carousel had spun for weeks and there was no word on his future. The belief is that some stability for quarterback Daniel Jones and the offense could be valuable.
