9/9/2023 – Michigan 35, UNLV 7 – 2-0 I thought about copying and pasting last week's column and seeing if anyone noticed. It would have various references to ECU instead of UNLV, but acronyms are acronyms and maybe it would slide by. The accounting of JJ McCarthy's incompletions would be off by one and factually inaccurate, sure. I was banking on the nuclear glow coming off of McCarthy's arm obliterating all detail and leaving nothing but a crater of Buddhism (but fun!). I could have gotten away with it, I'm sure. The pattern of this game was the pattern of the other game: big long Michigan drives on which some disappointing run plays are washed away in a torrent of third and medium conversions. JJ McCarthy's eyes glow white and he starts levitating. The opposition can do nothing on the interior and cannot pass protect and is only able to eke out a first down or two. Michigan irritatingly turns it over on downs due to over-reliance on a dive play. They lose

2022 Season Re-watch and UFR Re-read Part II: The Defense

Preview 2022: Five Questions, Five Answers On Defense

Special Teams. 5Q5A Offense. 1. Does losing Mike Macdonald matter? Probably. Unlike Gattis, Macdonald did not make a lateral move, and his trajectory from nobody to position coach to college DC to NFL DC speaks volumes about what the Ravens organization thinks about him. It's no disrespect to Jesse Minter to say that Michigan would have been better off if Macdonald had set up shop in Ann Arbor for several years. (Schematically, anyway. Macdonald reportedly loathed recruiting with the fury of a thousand suns.) HOWEVA, that does not necessarily mean this year's team is going to be hindered by the transition. Going from Don Brown's all-man all-the-time approach to the Raven's diverse collection of fronts and zones is jarring. A few different players had issues with the change or

Spring Roster Overanalysis 2022

Michigan released a spring roster update this week. Does it have much information in it? Nope. Are Yellowpages even thick enough for a kid to sit on anymore? Nope. Are we going to do The Jerk anyway? Of course we are. Other sites that cover Michigan checked it for things a casual fan might want to know about. But here at MGoBlog, we (use various Excel functions to) notice everything. Let’s =if(B2=vlookup all the columns! Here’s my comprehensive roster file, and our updated Depth Chart by Class. Let's rosterize! Many Former DTs Are Not On It Consider this the exit post for the following contributors: DT Donovan Jeter. I held out hope that last year’s top backup would come back for his 6th year, but Jeter hired an agent and is going to try to catch on in the NFL. DT Jess Speight. Speight could have taken a COVID 6th year but the program is listing him as out of eligibility. DT Jack Stewart. This one passed unnoticed somehow despite Stewart being a scholarship player. Recrui

So You Signed a Wolverine: Donovan Jeter

Hello, fan of an NFL team. MGoBlog excruciatingly scouts every Michigan play, and scores them to inform our coverage. Since mi atleta es su atleta now, here we share what we're sharing. Series: RB Hassan Haskins, OL Andrew Stueber, DT Chris Hinton, DT Donovan Jeter, DE Aidan Hutchinson, DE David Ojabo, LB Josh Ross, S Daxton Hill, S Brad Hawkins, CB Vincent Gray. Quickly: Long-armed build-a-bear with bad pad level. Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent (signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers). NFL Comp: Foley Fatukasi. A little too tall and a little too thin DT who doesn't generate a lot of stats, but remains useful because his long arms make him impossible for linemen to stay attached to him long. What's his story? As with cornerback, DT is a pretty straightforward position in recruiting the 300-pound guys with long arms who can move are good at it and therefore hard to get if you're not going to recruit like a Georgia. Donovan Jeter came in a DE with a frame to hang a
