Letter: Guam needs a certified slaughterhouse

Referring to current economic conditions in Guam, a recent PDN article stated: “One of the things COVID-19 made clear is that Guam needs a much more diverse economy. The reliance almost solely on military spending and tourism translated into an almost dead economy since the pandemic hit.
Our ‘two-legged’ stool has proven extremely unreliable in times of crisis.’
Any new plan for island sustainability and economic development should focus on agriculture as the “third leg” and an important component of a diverse economy for island sustainability.
As it is apparent, all the islands of Micronesia, including Guam, rely on food and other life-supporting necessities from outside. In my pursuit of winning an argument with a colleague, I used Guam as an example for self-sustaining economy.
