Del Norte COVID-19 Update: Seven New Cases Identified

Seven new COVID-19 cases were reported to the Del Norte Public Health Branch on Monday.
There are currently 20 active cases in Del Norte County, according to the county’s COVID-19 Information Hub. There have been 40 new cases identified over the last 14 days, according to the Public Health Branch.
There have been a total of 1,529 COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County since the pandemic began in March 2020. Thirty-three people have been hospitalized and eight have died since the pandemic began, according to the COVID-19 Information Hub.

Crescent City Man Wanted on Child Molestation Charges Arrested in Barstow

California Highway Patrol officers arrested Constancio Gutierrez-Pelayo, 27, of Crescent City, in connection with local charges that he had sex with a minor.
Gutierrez-Pelayo was arrested in Barstow on an outstanding warrant Friday, according to the Crescent City Police Department.

After an initial interview was attempted on 6-23-21 with Constancio Gutierrez-Pelayo, he fled the Crescent City area. Crescent City Police Officer Pearson had worked with the Del Norte County District Attorney s Office to secure an arrest warrant for a felony violation of 261.5 (d) of the California Penal Code, prior to the attempted interview. Officer Pearson immediately began attempting to track and locate Gutierrez-Pelayo.

About six months after it asked local builders to hold on to their treated wood waste until the state figured out a mechanism to dispose of it, the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority will pursue a variance enabling it to accept the material.
The joint powers authority is also supporting California Assembly Bill 332, which will supplant and replace the variance process, Director Tedd Ward said Tuesday.
