The St. Charles Fire Department, Police Department, Ambulance, Eyota American Legion, Gladiolus Days Royalty, Project FINE, St. Charles Elementary School, and library staff joined in a water fight to celebrate the end of a successful summer reading program on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, in St. Charles. “We are extremely proud of our young readers this year, Jill Veerkamp, Director of the St. Charles Public Library said. “They went above and beyond. We’ve just been really happy to have them coming back to the library after COVID.”

Fireworks disturb wildlife with their bright explosions and noise, and the litter they create can be hazardous to wildlife and fish. For example, the abrupt lights and sounds are often seen as a threat by nesting bald eagles and easily startle great blue herons and other colonial nesting birds.
