CLEMSON, S.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that Clemson center Will Putnam (Offensive Lineman of the Week) and cornerback Nate Wiggins (Defensive Back of the Week) have both earned ACC Player of the Week honors in their respective categories for their performances in Clemson's 31-20 defeat of No. 20 North Carolina at Memorial Stadium last Saturday. The selections of Putnam and Wiggins pulled Clemson's total number of ACC weekly honors this season to 11. In total, Clemson has garnered 576 ACC weekly honors since 1968. Putnam's ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week award was his second of the season and the fourth of his career. He became the eighth player in Clemson history to earn at least four career ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week awards, joining Mitch Hyatt (seven), Stacy Long (five), Thomas Austin (five), Jim Bundren (four), Kyle Young (four), Ken Peeples (four) and Jordan McFadden (four). Below are a few notes about each of those seasons. 1972 50-Year Anniversary Our 50-year anniversary team was Hootie Ingram’s final season as head coach. The year is remembered for a thrilling 7-6 win over South Carolina to end the campaign and a meeting with a few Tiger players and Ingram during the week of the game. Clemson had stopped running down the Hill prior to games beginning with the 1970 season. A new locker room had been built for the Tigers in the west endzone, and at the time, it made sense to run out onto the field from that new facility at Memorial Stadium. The week prior to that final 1972 home game, senior captain Ben Anderson led some classmates to Ingram’s office to see if it would be possible to run down the Hill prior to the game.
