Situation room photo from the night of the bin laden raid? john brennan. you see in the upper right-hand corner. president obamas homeland security adviser taking part in one of the most important operations in american history. that man has now been stripped of his security clearance by a president seeking revenge. don lemon is here. and this is very interesting because on one level you could easily argue this is nothing, they dont need it, clapper will say it, hayden will say it, brennan may b...

Intelligence leaders like john brennan, like director clapper out there as strongly opinionated as they are. the reason theyre doing that is because, as they say, theyre so concerned about whats going on in our country. i profiled director clapper when he was the director of national intelligence. i spent four months with him trying to get him to say a single interesting, controversial opinion under any circumstances about anything. couldnt do it. the fact that john brennan, jim clapper, mike ha...

Involved here, are under serious assault. and this is going to get worse before it gets better, i predict. and i felt a duty, an obligation to speak up because of that long history of defending these things i think are extremely important for this country. and sure, at my advanced age id just as soon dance offstage but i feel a duty and an obligation to speak up. i think john and mike and others feel the same way. >> you can do your dancing on your own time youve got a lot of gas left in the tan...

Fbi, not the cia. okay? comey was in charge of the fbi. brennan was cia. he says he didnt even learn about the dossier for half a year after the investigation started. all right? what does that tell us? it tells us this is just about political payback. then who do we have next? michael hayden. you also see him here on cnn. the former director of national security, the national security agency, and the cia director. those are two really big jobs. what has he done? hes compared trumps policies to ...

Critics. i dont think as weve seen this morning with john brennans op-ed it wont be successful in silencing those who are threatened and on what does appear to be an enemies list. the thing im most concerned about, though, john is not about john brennans security clearance, jim clappers or mine or any former officials. the concern i have is the message this sends to career intelligence officials, career intelligence professionals and law enforcement professionals whose job it is to do independen...

Hall. steve, a lot to take through with you here. do you agree with those in the intelligence community like michael haddon is nothing short of a threat to silence us? is it? >> absolutely, poppy. if you go through the list of people that over the past couple of weeks, even days that the president has begun going after, most recently, and most noteworthy, john brennan, clapper. if you go further back, back even further, you have andrew mccabe and comey. he is trying to eliminate or intimidate th...

Get security clearance for a former government official. and guess what? it aint there. it is not -- thats because its not a right. it is a privilege. and it is a privilege bestowed by the president of the united states as a courtesy. it does not have to be extended. >> no, it doesnt. but when is it supposed to be pulled? theres a process, niger. we just watched people go through it. clierny, trumps own. right? who had trouble either getting or keeping their security clearance because they have ...

President seeking revenge. don lemon is here. and this is very interesting because on one level you could easily argue this is nothing, they dont need it, clapper will say it, hayden will say it, brennan may be saying it right now on tv for all i know. we dont use it anymore, it doesnt matter. but it compromises the people who are in there now in terms of using those men the way they used men who came before them. and on another level, don, it means everything. it means if this president doesnt ...

Of national intelligence he used former officials from other administrations to learn, to pick up on leads, to get things faster, to make decisions better. he says he has talked to senior administration officials. he doesnt want to say their name. because who knows what trump would do to them? now they dont have access to that. how does that make us more of a? safe how about bruce ohr? hes over here. hes still a government employee. he still works for the d.o.j. whats his connection to the russi...

Those are names that conveniently double as a list of people whom trump blames for the mueller probe. one on that list is former director of national intelligence james clapper, our guest tonight. welcome to "prime time." good to have you, sir. >> thanks, chris. >> what do you make of the move? >> well, i think it was, as mike hayden indicated earlier, it was petty and vindictive and it was very personal against john brennan. but you know, this is really not about us individually. and whatever i...
