A hailstorm in the Southern Tier covered Interstate 86 with slush and shut down part of the expressway on Friday afternoon.
Heavy hail and slick conditions were to blame for a three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-86 in Cuba, Allegany County, according to the Cuba Fire Department.
Cuba is less than 20 miles north of the Pennsylvania border.
The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes and the tractor-trailer settled in the median. Everyone riding in the the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries.
The hail mimicked wet snow conditions on the highway, which temporarily closed due to thick slush accumulation, the fire department said.
