The 2021 Maine Boatbuilders Show had 100 exhibitors. As of this month, only 45 had signed up for the 2022 edition. “So many boatbuilders had no new boats to bring,” said the organizer.

Who knew that the American Library Association selected our humble Sprague Library as the "Most Beautiful Branch Library in America"? Yup, in 1935! The award could certainly be fitting today as this Salt Lake City library re-opened to the public this week as a restored, refreshed and repaired beauty to behold!
Back in July 2017, a sudden storm drenched both the city and Sugar House. Several inches poured from the skies over an hour. This library sits along Parleys Creek, and debris in the creek clogged one of the drainage grates in the Hidden Hollow retention pond, causing water and detritus to overflow, running directly into the basement of the library. When the storm subsided, there were 5 feet of muck and dirty water in the basement; books, periodicals and supplies were lost forever.

Portland Yacht Services/Portland Ship Yard is taking advantage of its spacious waterfront acreage to plan a socially distanced, in-person boat show this summer.
The Maine Boatbuilders Show, which typically draws around 10,000 people, was scheduled to take place last March at the Portland Sports Complex in Portland.
The pandemic forced cancellation of the 2020 event, but the boat show's promoters said last week they plan to host a modified version of the show on the boat yard's campus of nearly 17 acres, at 100 West Commercial St. on Portland’s western waterfront.
The show is the traditional time when builders of both fiberglass and custom wooden boats, as well as makers and retailers of boating equipment, can showcase their latest work and new products.
