Artist Barbara Healy hosted on a “paint and sip” wine tasting and painting workshop with the Mary Celeste Whiskey and Wine Library as part of the second weekend of the Marion Art Center’s SouthCoast Spring Arts festivities on May 15.
The event was penultimate in the 10-day festival, followed only by a virtual concert paying tribute to Buzzards Bay on May 16.
“Normally for Art Week we would have had more events,” Marion Art Center Executive Director Jodi Stevens said. “But eight feels perfect.”
At the paint and sip workshop, participants were aided by Healy and her partner Pam Clarkson in painting a copy of a landscape on display in front of the class.

MARION After finding out how to schedule an arts festival to act as a surrogate for ArtWeek, Marion Arts Center Executive Director Jodi Stevens is hoping the weather stays nice.
“Hopefully we won’t have to use our rain dates,” she laughed.
The art center is putting on eight events for South Coast Spring Arts, a local festival with events across the region to act in lieu of the statewide ArtWeek festival.
Spring Arts events at the MAC will run from May 7 to 16, with a mix of in-person, remote and hybrid events. Most outdoor events will have backup dates in case of rain.

MARION A committee of Elizabeth Taber Library trustees and librarians have created three surveys to gain information to shape the library s new five-year strategic plan.
There are surveys for elementary students and middle and high school students to weigh in. There is also a survey for all other residents.
Each survey is designed to gain as much information as possible to help guide the Elizabeth Taber Library s policies, programming and services to the Marion community.
To take the survey, visit www.ElizabethTaberLibrary.org. Print surveys are available at the Library, Council on Aging, and at the Marion Arts center.

NEW BEDFORD – Art will be overwhelming the SouthCoast starting May 7. A ten-day artistic adventure, connecting communities from Fall River to Wareham, will be a reminder that art is still thriving amid the pandemic and maybe ignite future artists.
“I hope we can inspire people to experiment with their creativity,” said Jodi Stevens, executive director of the Marion Art Center. Stevens teamed with Anthi Frangiadi, owner of The Drawing Room and Lee Heald, the director of AHA! New Bedford, to create this inspiring artistic tour.
“I hope that people will realize that there are still ways to enjoy the art, even during what we re experiencing now,” Stevens said.
