Her book has gotten a lot of critical praise. For example, tthe Washington Post writes, Heather Cox Richardson of Boston College describes goldwaters crusade in her masterful book. Perhaps the most important Political Coalition of the 20th century and Publishers Weekly says, though richardson underemphasizes the prevalence of racism, sexism and unequality of other parts of the country during the civil war she marshals more for the books title.
