Elgin’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. prayer breakfast is back for its 39th year on Saturday, Jan. 13.
The program celebrating the civil rights leader will be held at Elgin Community College, Buildi.
When it came to helping people in need in his community, Elgin resident Joe Wars only knew one way to answer.
“Joe always said yes we can, and never ‘no, we can’t,’” said longtime friend Jan.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. food drive collected about 30,000 pounds of food donations from one Elgin church and is receiving monetary donations from other churches, organizers said.
