Peter Dinklage stars in this uneven but still enjoyable quasi-musical

'Cyrano' is one of a trio of new movie musicals recently nominated for Oscars

'Cyrano' lives gloriously on the screen, with 'Game of Thrones' star Peter Dinklage giving a captivating performance in the titular role.

Edmond Rostand's revered five-act play "Cyrano de Bergerac" first premiered on Dec. 27, 1897, at the famed Theatre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris. Since then, the story of the French nobleman with the unmissable long nose has been retold countless times on stage. There have also been more than 15 feature film adaptations including this latest effort by English director Joe Wright.

Haley Bennett and Kelvin Harrison Jr. also star in this musical version of "Cyrano de Bergerac" from "Pride & Prejudice" director Joe Wright.

Joe Wright is at his best when he’s making movies about love. “Cyrano” is one of his finer efforts among a flock of high achievers including “Atonement” and “Pride & Prejudice.” And this lush adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic play “Cyrano de Bergerac” feels like it was made by people who are IN love, which could be at least partially attributed to the fact the creatives
