1. Zegras leading way for United States
At the 2020 WJC, United States forward Trevor Zegras (Anaheim Ducks) led all players with nine assists and had nine shots on goal but didn t score. This year he s tied for the tournament lead with six goals on 15 shots and is first with 13 points. Obviously I m shooting the puck more, I think I have a little more confidence in those areas, Zegras said. I m playing with two great players in Arthur Kaliyev (Los Angeles Kings) and Alex Turcotte (Los Angeles Kings), they re putting me in some really good spots, and I m just getting pretty lucky and putting them away.
WORLD JUNIORS: Broberg battles but Sweden s streak is snapped
Oilers 2019 first-round pick returns to action and plays 23-plus minutes in Wednesday s 4-3 OT loss to Russia by Ryan Frankson / EdmontonOilers.com
EDMONTON, AB - Philip Broberg played through the pain on Wednesday.
The Oilers defence prospect was noticeably hindered as Sweden took on Russia but still managed to compete for 23:41, though the game ended in defeat with a 4-3 overtime decision.
Marat Khusnutdinov s sudden-death winner on the power play with just six seconds left in the extra frame ended Sweden s remarkable preliminary round win streak at 54 games.
After recording three assists and getting selected as Sweden s top player against Czech Republic on Saturday, Broberg was held out of the lineup for Monday s game against Austria.

CANADA
Half a dozen players return from the team that won gold in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in dramatic fashion. Trailing by two in the third period, Canada scored three to beat Russia. Tournament MVP Alexis Lafreniere was eligible to play again for Canada, but the New York Rangers didn t release the No. 1 pick in this year s NHL draft. Devon Levi was slated to start in goal for Canada s lone pre-tournament game against Russia on Wednesday, but the three goalies haven t got much time to separate themselves prior to the tournament.
Team Canada practised on Monday inside the Edmonton bubble.
Quinton Byfield arrived at Canada s World Junior selection camp as one of the most hyped players. The Sudbury Wolves centre, a tantalizing mix of size, speed and skill, had just gone second overall to the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League draft making him the highest pick on a Canadian roster overflowing with talent.
But Byfield struggled to get up to speed early on. Going through nine months of not being on the ice too much and not getting to go through team practices was definitely challenging, he admitted. Getting back in the flow of things definitely took me a little bit, but I m starting to find my rhythm and getting used to all the hard practices that we re putting in here.
