The arrest came a day after four people were found dead in two burning homes in the city about 100 miles northwest of Omaha.

Police investigating the killings of four people in a small northeast Nebraska city have arrested a neighbor of the victims, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

A man was seen driving away from the city of Laurel before the bodies were discovered and that investigators wanted to speak to him, a Nebraska State Patrol official said.

Laurel is home to fewer than 1,000 people and is located about 100 miles northwest of Omaha.

While responding to reports of an explosion at one home, a fire was reported three blocks away, police said.

Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the state patrol, said the state patrol is investigating the connection between the two fires. He asked anybody with information to contact the state patrol

State police said they will use autopsy results to guide the investigation and are relying heavily on the public for information.
