Former newsroom colleagues remembered him as the kind of eagle-eyed advocate for journalists and journalism whom they might butt heads with while in the moment-to-moment trenches of news-making but still respect the next day.

BATON ROUGE — John Camp, an award-winning journalist who once was a member of the WBRZ family and one of the founders of OBrien House, a recovery center for alcoholics and drug addicts, has died. He was 88.

The OBrien House has been helping people in the Baton Rouge community since 1971. One of its founders, John Camp, is an award-winning journalist who once walked the halls of WBRZ. Now, the recovery center is working to honor Camp by naming a room after him.

"That is the thing that we're most proud of as parents is just, them being who they are, regardless of what that looks like," Chrissie Batts, a mother, said.

The East TN Equality Council, otherwise known as Knox Pride, started in 2006. Since then, the organization has grown to tackle some of the area's biggest issues.

This year, Knox Pride is hosting its festival from Oct. 6 through Oct. 8, starting off with a march and parade.

The Florida man charged with abuse of a corpse in St. Clair County has a court date set next week.
