John Constable's biggest painting has undergone more than 270 careful hours of cleaning by the National Trust and is now back on display.

Artist John Constable's largest known painting which was never exhibited in his lifetime, has been brought back to its full glory in Cambridgeshire.

The masterpiece, which is over seven feet long and took 13 years to complete, depicts the scene on the second anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo in 1817, when the bridge built in its honour was opened.

The image of the River Thames in 1817 is now "back to its full glory", the National Trust says.
