brutal at one below this morning and atlantic city 1 degree. the morning wind chills, they ranged anywhere from 15 below at the shore to as much as 22 degrees below zero in reading and right now our wind chill is still near 0 degrees across the area. double scan live radar will show there's a warm front down to the south bringing a mix of sleet and snow for nashville even some snow for atlanta. all of this precipitation will expand and lift to the north and east as we get into your saturday afternoon and that's why that winter storm watch will go into effect for philadelphia, all points to allentown and the poconos. we're not watching anything. this definitely is going to come in the form of snow and an advisory in southern areas where there will be a little snow but a quicker change to sleet, freezing rain and rain. jim, it will be a mess around here as we transition from snow to rain. we'll talk about the timing and how much to expect in that full accuweather forecast. >> adam to being outside today is layering. we're outside the trenton transit center right now and if you look around here today it looks more like alaska than judge. people are dressed in multiple layers and for some it's still not enough. >> can't take it. it's just brutal out. >> reporter: jim hall is one of the contractors working on a water line leak along south olden avenue. as the crew tried to locate the leak water spilled out into the street and turned into ice. it's hard to work outside. >> we're all bundled up and basically being able to handle it but my toes are freezing. i have to get in the truck every now and then to warm them up. >> reporter: and joe keeps hands warmers in his gloves to help his frozen fingers. this trenton police officer had been outside directing traffic block of brookhaven looks like a skating rink. about 6-inches of solid ice is causing for big problems for homeowners trying to get into their garages. this happened when a pipe burst inside an unoccupied home sending water down the alley way. the water department says it's the homeowner's responsibility to picks that leaking pipe. problem there. keep track of the temperatures on in town for rehearsals for minaj's upcoming tore of europe. homicide detectives are on the case of a man found shot to death in his car. this was the scene on west silver street in north philadelphia. investigators say the gunman fired seven times at point blank range through the driver's side window of a parked mercedes benz. police don't yet have a motive or a suspect. chopper 6 hd was overhead this afternoon as philadelphia police arrested a bank robbery suspect on the ben franklin parkway. investigators say the man held up the susquehanna bask off rittenhouse square at gunpoint just minutes before this. officers say they found cash and a gun on the man at the time of the arrest. it is the first major endorsement of the mayoral campaign in philadelphia. the firefighters union today came out for jim kenny. the president of local 22 said today that kenny has been a steadfast ally of firefighters over the past two decades as a city councilman. the union represents 4,000 current and former members of the fire department. kenny's father was a firefighter. penn state's thon is now officially under way. more than 700 dancers began their marathon at exactly 6 o'clock and they will go without stopping for 46 hours, this the scene just six minutes ago. this is all happening at the bryce jordan center in state college. and that's where "action news" reporter chad and it has been an honor to cover over the past several years. this place is rocking. just moments ago, 700 dancers got up on their feet and they will begin a 46 hour dance marathon. it won't end until sunday at 4:00 p.m. this place is packed, capacity here at the bryce jordan center, roughly 15,000. most of these people are here to support the dancers but the real inspiration is the kids. as you know, jim the slogan is ftk, for the kids and just moments ago i spoke with some local dancers. >> i think us dancing means all of my efforts over the last four years are culminating and my senior year i have been able to give back through fundraisers and things like that in the past. this is the ultimate way i can give back to these families and wonderful kids we've been doing all this work for. >> i'm really excited. i've been training for a few weeks for this. i'm ready to go. >> reporter: how do you train for something like this. >> doing walks keeping your legs nice and strong, getting cardio in, keeping the muscles loose. >> reporter: what a great event and for these students this is the legacy they will leave behind here at penn state. now, thon began in 1977 over $100 (vo) visit your local retailer and feel the tempur-pedic difference for yourself. >> this will not be a pretty weekend. >> no and it's going to start with more record lows tomorrow morning then a mess of snow, sleet freezing rain and rain. double scan live radar never quiet around here in february. we're clear for now but that will change starting late tomorrow morning into the afternoon. first, at the highlight we talk about more record cold for saturday morning and then that wintry weekend especially the first half of the weekend. records tomorrow morning should either be tied or broken again. for allentown trenton for dover and for atlantic city at the airport of 3 degrees even wilmington that 6 degrees would be a record. philadelphia's record tomorrow morning is six. we'll get close to it at seven and tomorrow morning in reading not a record but we'll still start at 0 degrees. then with that cold air in place, snow will break out in the afternoon and evening across the area and once it starts, it will turn heavy pretty quickly and that means that it will stick right on the roads and that snow is going to be that very wet heavy snow, not that fluffy snow we had the last go around and eventually we'll change to some ice and rain as we get into saturday evening and saturday night. right now 14 trenton, 13 allentown, 14 in wilmington, six in the poconos teens at the shore but you factor in the wind and it still feels like one in allentown as well as lancaster and as you could see four a pretty popular number in the remaining locations. a lot of dry air. the one thing about this arctic polar air it can't hold a lot of moisture so you see the lack of cloud cover but warm air as it's trying to flood in from the south to the north, this warm front here, you get that warm air to ride over that existing cold air and it breaks out that precipitation you see strikeing from not only the tennessee valley but even snow through atlanta georgia. that snow will head to the north noontime tomorrow way to our west just about entering the viewing area, quickly overspreads i-95 into southern new jersey noon, one, 2, 3 o'clock turning heavy at times and by 6 o'clock it's still snow wilmington, philadelphia, trenton mixing down to the south. then that mix line punctures i-95. by 9:30 tomorrow night rain in southern new jersey, snow in the lehigh valley through midnight and again still raining right up until about early sunday morning but by sunday noontime thereafter that sunshine will break out. 1 to 2-inchs in southern areas from millville atlantic city to dover. the greater philadelphia area along i-95 up to doylestown and norristown two to 4-inches and in the lehigh valley, four to 6-inches before even there it mixes with a little bit of sleet and freezing rain. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast afternoon and evening snow developing at there. it's a mess tomorrow evening as we try to transition to rain. a morning leftover shower sunday but a beautiful second half of the weekend. sunny, 46 sunday afternoon. more bitter cold monday and tuesday, highs in the 20's. a little recovery come wednesday and then more cold thursday into friday and i'll have a complete update at 11:00 with any new model information to make sure that map stays the same. >> it's a struggle. >> that it is. >> thank you adam. abc's world news tonight with david muir is next on channel 6.
