Philanthropists Navin and Pratima Doshi Make Yet Another Donation: LA Gets Doshi Center for Integrative Medicine

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – In the midst of a global health crisis, the Maharishi International University opened the Doshi Center for Integrative Medicine here on the morning of May 14. A $5 million donation in the form of a two-story building, in a prime locale on Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles, by Indian American philanthropists Navin and Pratima Doshi had made this possible, announced Dr. John Hagelin, president of MIU, at an online event and a small in-person audience. Well known in Southern California for their support of research and study of India and its traditions, for the Doshis, this marks one more in a series of donations to academic institutions. While the couple’s endowments support chairs on Indic systems and history at public and private schools like UCLA and Loyola Marymount, the new Doshi Center is envisaged to run as a clinic for treatment, training, and research on Ayurveda.

Washington Times Story on How Democratic Party Elections Bill in Congress Restricts Primary Season Matching Funds

Posted on The Washington Times has become the first general news source to publicize a flaw in HR 1, the Democratic Party-backed election law bill in Congress. The bill makes it five times more difficult for presidential candidates to qualify for primary season matching funds. CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS TRY TO VASTLY TOUGHEN RULES FOR PRIMARY SEASON MATCHING FUNDS Starting in 1984, minor party presidential candidates have used primary season matching funds to help pay for petitioners to get on the ballot. Now, Democrats in Congress propose to make eligibility for primary season matching funds five times more difficult. H.R. 1 and S.1 make many election law changes. Among the changes are increasing the difficulty of receiving primary season matching funds. Current law requires small donations totalling at least $5,000 from each of twenty states. The bills raise that to $25,000 from each of twenty states. Minor party presidential candidates who have received primary season matching funds, and the amounts, are as follows:

New York Independence Party in 2020 Had its Lowest Voter Support Since Becoming a Qualified Party

Posted on The New York Independence Party became a ballot-qualified party in November 1994, and was on the ballot continuously ever since, although under the new definition of a “qualified party” passed in 2020, it went off the ballot in November 2020. In November 2020 it had its lowest voter support since becoming a qualified party. Its nominee for the top office on the ballot, Brock Pierce for president, only polled .26% of the vote. Except in 2008, the Independence Party has always nominated someone for president who was not a Democrat or a Republican, if it nominated anyone at all. In 1996 it nominated Ross Perot and got 7.97%. In 2000 it nominated John Hagelin of the Natural Law Party and got .36%. In 2004 it nominated Ralph Nader and got 1.14%. In 2008 it nominated Republican nominee John McCain and got 2.15%. In 2012 it had no presidential nominee. In 2016 it nominated Gary Johnson, who was also the Libertarian nominee, and got 1.55%.
