Herdsman killed, over 4,000 cows raided in Uror County
A herdsman was killed and about 4,500 cows stolen in an attack carried out by armed bandits on a cattle camp at the outskirts of Pieri Payam in Uror County, Jonglei State on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Tang Chatim the acting county commissioner told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that, “Kajethar cattle camp near Pieri town was attacked by the criminals on Saturday afternoon, killing one herder on the spot, while the rest escaped unhurt. The attackers also went away with about 4,500 cows.”
He condemned the attack, but that the county is calm despite the incident.
Bor police urge churches to abide by COVID-19 measures
Police authorities in the Jonglei State capital, Bor, have called on churches to strictly observe Covid-19 preventive measures during service, warning of stern penalties against those found in violation.
The call comes amidst reports of continued public gatherings at events, including Sunday church services, without adherence to the stipulated prevention measures.
Late last month, the National Taskforce on COVID-19, issued an order banning all forms of social gatherings until 3 March as the country witnessed a surge in cases.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, Lt. Colonel John Mawut Ngang, the state’s police spokesperson, said they have been enforcing Coronavirus preventive measures at the places of worship since last week.
Jonglei boat accident leaves 2 dead
Two people were killed and six others injured in an accident involving two commercial boats along the River Nile in Twic East County of Jonglei State on Wednesday, police and local officials said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, John Mawut Ngang, the state police spokesperson, said the fatal accident occurred when the two boats collided at the Marial area along the Nile River of Jonglei’s Twic East County on Wednesday night.
“The incident involved a boat carrying passengers and goods which left Bor for Twic East with an empty boat coming from Fangak County. Reaching Marial, the two collided, killing two people on the spot and injuring six others,” Mawut said.
Police arrest suspect over Bor wrestling fracas

Police in Bor town of Jonglei State said they have arrested a man for allegedly triggering a fracas during a wrestling match in Bor over the weekend.
On Sunday evening more than 10 people were injured in a brawl following a misunderstanding that erupted during a wrestling match.
The wrestling contest was between the communities of Gwala and Pathyouth of Bor County.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the state police spokesperson, Lt. Colonel John Mawut Ngang, said calm was immediately restored after the incident and that one man is being investigated for starting the fight.

Police in the Jonglei State capital, Bor have confirmed the expulsion of two Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) bishops from the state over the weekend, citing security concerns.
Bishop Gabriel Kuc of ECSS Kongoor Diocese and his Wangolei Diocese colleague Bishop Zechariah Manyyok Biar arrived Bor Saturday morning, prompting a chaotic scene at the Bor airport as security apparatus tried to expel the two bishops.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Tuesday, Lt. Colonel John Mawut Ngang, the state police spokesperson, said they had to expel the two bishops Saturday because they defied a government order banning any ECSS bishop from going to Jonglei until the ongoing leadership dispute is resolved, saying their presence would incite violence among the faithful.
