Carpentersville trustees Tuesday approved hiring a now former fellow board member as the new village manager. John OSullivan was the longest-serving member of the current village board and was asked to take the $155,000-a-year village manager job after what was called disappointing interviews with three other candidates.

Carpentersville Village Manager Eric Johnson gave his notice Thursday that he is stepping down to take a new job with the Fox River Water Reclamation District. His last day with the village is Dec. 2.
