Spillson s torn down to make way for new restaurant, gas station
The former Spillson’s Restaurant and Famous Original Rice Building in Frenchtown Township, a once popular eating spot for thousands of residents and tourists, is being torn down to make way for a new gas station, convenience store and drive-through restaurant.
An excavator run by Bush Contracting of Michigan began razing the structure in the rain Thursday at the junction of N. Monroe St. (M-125) and N. Telegraph Rd. (US-24). The site is just south of a former Mobil gas station that closed several years ago at the corner.
