North-east MasterChef fans may recognise a familiar face - councillor Geva Blackett - on the long-running BBC programme tonight.

The reliable culinary contest is back but none of the contestants seem to have read the brief

Masterchef returned with a bang on Monday evening - as the judges praised a contestant for the best Ackee and salt fish theyd ever seen on the show. 

MasterChef got off to an interesting start when Aberdeenshire councillor, Geva Blackett, served haggis, neeps and tatties with hollandaise.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Two bits of samphire are not enough. Bisque and risotto do not belong together. Pancakes will impress nobody and its a culinary faux pas to flatten Yorkshire puddings.

A new series of MasterChef kicks off tonight (April 10), with two budding cooks from the North East appearing on the first show.
