John Warnock wrote one of the shortest PhD dissertations in history, then changed the world of publishing and printing as co-founder of Adobe.

Dr. John Warnock, whose desktop publishing industry technology developments (such as PostScript and PDF file format) as the co-founder of Adobe with Charles Geschke, forever changed the printing and publishing industry, died Aug. 19th at age 82.

Warnock and Charles Geschke left Xerox to found Adobe in 1982 after Xerox refused to commercialize a protocol that enabled its printers to communicate with computers.
