Four lovers of wildlife came to the rescue on Christmas Eve when they were told a buzzard was trapped in netting at Shinrone GAA pitch.
The men called for a cherry picker from Roscrea. The cherry picker was driven at 15 mph all the way from Roscrea. Then the birdlovers bravely ascended high into the air and gently released the bird, not an easy thing to do when a bird of prey with a sharp beak is entangled and wants to get free. They freed the bird without any harm to themselves, and thankfully the buzzard was also unharmed.

“We had been throwing around the idea of an injunction. Numerous solicitors contacted me about offering their services. I remember discussing it with Nicky, we had a quick chat with the county board and it was apparent the board would, under no circumstances, consider it. Con Hogan was chairman at the time and it was just a ‘no’.
While we ve certainly had a few enjoyable days out in Davy Fitzgerald s tenure, what were for many the halcyon days of Wexford hurling are to feature in a brand new one-hour documentary to be aired on TG4 tomorrow (Wednesday) night.
Réabhlóid GAA is a newly developed documentary which tells the story of how hurling redefined itself as a sport in the 1990s to truly become our national game. For over a century, the hurling spoils were shared among the traditional three superpowers of Cork, Kilkenny and Tipperary. Then, in five minutes in 1994 everything changed as the hurlers of Offaly sparked a revolution. Along came a collection of upstarts, Wexford among them, to tear up the old order.
