I am Generation Equality because…
Three actions you can take to help prevent violence against women and girls:
Be responsible in consuming and spreading information on social media
Avoid language that reinforces patriarchal ways of thinking
Speak up when you witness sexist talk and behaviour.
(pic). I was alerted to this article. This is absolutely wrong, said the former deputy Women, Family and Community Development minister on Monday (April 12) on Twitter.
The article is believed to have been posted in 2016 and only quoted online sources as its four references.
It also contains wrong or outdated notions of the causes of sexual harassment which are listed as physical attractiveness, unsuitable clothing style, unrestricted social interactions, a person s power and status and culture.
The article also seems to pin the blame heavily on women and even suggest that women should avoid working overtime alone to prevent unwanted acts or attention.

Malaysia is pushing for Sharia law to be tougher against LGBT+ Muslims even as it makes a bid for a spot on the UN Human Rights Council.
On Tuesday (6 April) the Malaysian government announced plans to move forward with an amendment to the Sharia Courts Act that would allow heavier punishments to be imposed on the LGBT+ community.
The country’s strict Islamic laws already penalise any form of anal or oral sex with up to 20 years in prison and mandatory caning – but ministers want to push it further still.
