A brief statement by the Joint Operations Command said that 10 rockets were fired in the morning on Ayn al-Asad airbase without causing casualties, while the Iraqi forces seized the rocket launcher later. Wayne Maratto, spokesperson of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, said in a brief tweet that initial reports stated that 10 rockets targeted the airbase at about 7:20 a.m. local time (0420 GMT).

One person was killed and 36 others, including police members, were wounded when security forces used tear gas to disperse the protests. The government has been seeking to end the protests in Nasiriyah, which erupted on Sunday, ahead of a visit by Pope Francis I in March. A spokesman for the province’s police said that the Joint Operations Command has prepared a security plan for the visit.
