We read with interest the text of NFL star Russell Wilson’s commencement address last Sunday to Dartmouth College’s Class of 2022. His remarks were both witty and inspiring, intended to launch the new graduates into the world on a sea of buoyant.
Although the primary is months away there are already two candidates who have announced their run for Michigan House District 77; Jon Horford and Logan Byrne.
How will Grand Ledge schools address diversity? A look at the recommendations officials will consider

GRAND LEDGE - A set of recommendations from a 23-member committee focused on addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion at Grand Ledge Public Schools will likely be considered by school officials sometime in August, said Sara Clark Pierson, Board of Education president.
The district s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee was created last June less than a month after Brian Metcalf, the district s former superintendent, posted Facebook comments blaming George Floyd for his own death at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis. Metcalf s comments prompted current and former students to come forward and relay their own experiences with racism in the school district. Metcalf was fired last fall.

GRAND LEDGE - Marcus Davenport was a student at Michigan State University majoring in political science when he first thought about a career in education.
A volunteer stint at a Lansing elementary school convinced him to consider teaching. What most appealed to him then, the challenge, still drives his career as an administrator two decades later. My goal was to always work in challenging environments, Davenport, 43, said.
For the last four years he s been at the helm of Beecher Community Schools, a small school district of fewer than 700 students north of Flint. When he took the job as superintendent there, Davenport said, the district was $1.5 million in debt and enrollment numbers were dropping rapidly.
