California Retired Teachers Association, awards annual scholarships to provide financial support to Californian youth as they forge their futures. On April 15, CalRTA s local branch,
Desert Roadrunner Division 43, announced the recipients of its 2021 scholarships in an online Zoom ceremony with mentors and parents present.

Jon Newland acknowledged that it had been a difficult year, especially for students in elementary, high school and up to college. There were many challenges this year for students and their families, he said. Looking over these applications, we would [like to] give the scholarships to every one of these 27 students they are all really worthy. We just don’t have that kind of funding. There are incredible stories of extra-curricular participation, stellar grades and a lot of these students work on top of everything.
