Foundations shift billions to donor-advised funds, skirting US laws requiring transfers to the needy, a Bloomberg analysis finds.

Nearly two dozen residents near the Broadway Avenue cul-de-sac on the north side of Detroit Lakes voiced their concerns and defeated a measure that would have linked their neighborhood road to Terry Street as part of a development plan in the area during a city council meeting on Sept. 13.

Members of the Detroit Lakes City Council discussed a preliminary job description created by city staff for a full-time fire chief during their most recent meeting on Aug. 8. Additionally, members became the last governing authority to approve bids for the Highland Drive road reconstruction project, a joint project between Detroit Township, Becker County and the City of Detroit Lakes. Construction is expected to begin by September.

Engineers for Becker County and Detroit Lakes provided Highland Drive residents with an update to their street reconstruction project during a joint meeting, hosted at City Hall in Detroit Lakes on July 19.

Members of the Detroit Lakes City Council debated parking lot plans and cost for the proposed expansion of the Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics and Fitness facility during their meeting on July 12.

The low bid of $5,071,240 was approved by the city and the county on Tuesday -- much higher than it would have cost last year, but close to the engineer's estimate made last month.

The winning bid for the street and utility project was approved following a public hearing on Tuesday, June 7. Construction may begin as soon as mid-July between County Road 6 and the Pelican River.
