Amid its growing popularity, the La Jolla Recreation Center has hired a new assistant director.

The advisory board for the Recreation Center holds its first meeting since June.

While the La Jolla Parks & Beaches board is the latest local group to sign on to a letter to the California Coastal Commission looking to curb sidewalk vending in La Jolla parks, it is the only one thus far to register some opposition.

The La Jolla Community Recreation Group, the advisory board for the La Jolla Recreation Center, voted to request funds to repair the center’s 8-month-old temporary bocce court.

However, the popularity may be causing a problem with access, leading to discussion of a possible reservation system.

Four months after it opened, the temporary bocce court at the La Jolla Recreation Center appears in need of upkeep.
