Most Republicans still support Trump. But the polls still suggest the federal indictment is hurting him.

House Freedom Caucus Republicans have temporarily halted their blockade of the House floor, ending for now a nearly weeklong shutdown of business in the chamber. The small group of rebels was pledging to block all significant legislation from passing until Speaker Kevin McCarthy agreed to their demands.

Those are the front-runners, but a lot can happen in the next year as the campaign presses on.

Much hinges on whether the former president, and current Republican front-runner, is tried and convicted before or after his election.

If he wants to take down Trump, he should consider the successes and failures or other ‘protest’ candidates.
