The Department for Education has revealed plans to pilot the use of surplus school spaces to offer childcare provision as part of its expansion of funded hours.

Most early years providers have not changed the number of places they offer, despite an additional 85,000 places being needed for the full roll out of the expanded offer.

Around 85,000 new childcare places will be needed by September 2025 for the expansion of funded childcare for working parents in England, the Government has estimated.
