Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all proceedings against three women reporters for Mada Masr, one of Egypt’s last independent news websites, who could face up to two years in prison on charges of “offence against MPs” and “misusing communications channels” in a trial due to start on 6 March.

Reporters from one of Egypt's last remaining independent media outlets are preparing for what activists criticize is a politically motivated trial. The international community should be doing more to help, they say.

"Sending them back to Syria is to send them back to imprisonment, disappearance, or even death," says RSF.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is appalled by the 18-year sentence (10 years in prison plus eight years suspended) that an Iranian journalist received on 10 January, in what is the harshest sentence passed on any journalist since protests about Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody began four months ago. He and all of the other journalists imprisoned in Iran must be freed at once, RSF says.

Three of the four journalists sentenced to death by Houthi rebels in 2020 were tortured in custody for at least 45 days.
