Green planners envision new approach to development
ELLSWORTH The Green Plan, an ambitious roadmap to what its contributors view as a sustainable future for the city, touches on many quality-of-life issues around water, food and farming, infrastructure and land. A break-out public online forum on March 4 focused on land. The night before, the plan’s community liaison, Mary Blackstone, spoke to the Planning Board on some of the proposal’s recommendations.
The 50 pages on land heavily focus on the “green” in the plan, detailing recommendations for conserving 50 percent of all Ellsworth land by 2031, increasing public access to water and green spaces, a city tree planting plan and a city director and management plan for parks, recreation and landscaped spaces.
