"We're going to need a goalkeeper traded": Jake Allen's agent wants to get things moving

Since the start of the season, there’s been a lot of talk about the Canadiens’ trio of goaltenders. Initially, it was intended as a temporary measure to avoid losing Cayden Primeau to the waivers… but by mid-February, we were beginning to realize that it was time to give him one last cup of coffee before […]

wray have to go, alan dershowitz? and does that mean that the department of justice, under merrick garland, that he has to be impeached? he has to be removed? he has politicized the department of justice and it can't be trusted? >> the first step is to have judicial oversight. that's why the judge's decision tomorrow to appoint an independent monitor instead of a taint team is a good first step. >> sean: they already read it. it's too late. >> it's not too late. >> sean: they have it, they read it. >> the independent examiner can at least pinpoint what has been read. i don't trust the fbi, i don't trust the department of justice to make honest assessments as to what was read and what was privileged. we need oversight. >> sean: professor we're losing you, every other word is all we're picking up. thank you professor, congressman jordan weal' stay on the story with you. coming up after promising to be a great june firing biden has

2022 Olympics live updates: How to watch U.S. vs Canada women's hockey final, Kamila Valieva in women's figure skating, plus medal count

The inevitable has arrived. The United States and Canada will meet for gold Thursday (11:10 p.m. ET Wednesday, NBC) for the sixth time in seven women's hockey tournaments at the Winter Olympics. The U.S. is looking to defend its gold from four years ago but Canada is coming off a win in their preliminary round meeting.

Meanwhile, Kamila Valieva, the 15-year-old Russian whose presence in this event is the source of controversy after last week's revelation of a positive test for a banned substance in December, leads heading into Thursday's long program (5 a.m. ET, USA). The three Americans in the field are well off the medal pace after the first of the two-event competition — Alysa Liu sits in eighth, with Mariah Bell 11th and Karen Chen 13th.

This is the last shot at a medal for Mikaela Shiffrin, who clocked the fastest time in the downhill training session among the 14 skiers who ran it. If she fares well there, it sets up nicely for her — the slalom is traditionally her best event, despite her ski-out in that race earlier in these Games.

Chris Kamrani: Nathan Chen and the Olympic gold medal that only Nathan Chen could win

Levi Weaver: The music of figure skating: How a routine gets its soundtrack, from the classical to the ‘intergalactic love story’

Kevin Fishbain: John Shuster, from Olympic disaster to America’s favorite curler, is back for another shot at glory

Meet Team USA: Every athlete, every event, schedules and what to know for Beijing

Richard Deitsch: The 2022 Olympics viewer's guide

Sean Fitz-Gerald: As 2022 Olympics begin, China’s human rights abuses cast a grim shadow

Head to Peacock to catch the action in Beijing.

The Athletic may receive an affiliate commission if you open an account with Peacock through links contained in the (below) content.

(Photo: Anthony Wallace / AFP)

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva overcame a shaky start to capture first place in the women's short program Tuesday. The teen phenom, who has been at the center of a doping scandal at the Games, received a score of 82.16 despite stumbling on her opening triple axel to lead Russia. Her teammate Anna Shcherbakova was second.

Elsewhere Tuesday, teenage freeskier Eileen Gu, competing for China, secured her second medal of the Games with silver in the women's slopestyle. Beijing Olympics a step up for those in NHL playoff bubbles

BEIJING (AP) — Jordan Weal is happy to have more outside space than just a sidewalk. Leo Komarov is glad there's more to do outside of playing hockey. Eric Staal just likes the atmosphere better. Being confined to the bubble in Beijing may be new for some Olympians, but it's a familiar feeling for the dozen hockey players and two coaches who were in one of the NHL’s playoff bubbles in Toronto and Edmonton in 2020.
