The hourly workforce at Ultium Cells battery plant in Ohio have ratified a wage increase that will result in a wage hike of about $3 to $4 an hour.

While the agreement gives Ultium Cells workers a raise of more than 20 percent, membership overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike of the Big Three automakers after September 14.

The agreement gives an immediate pay increase of more than 20% to all current Ultium Cells hourly employees at the plant located in Warren, Ohio.

The UAW's negotiations led to a preliminary deal with Ultium Cells, LLC, which would increase starting wages from $16.50 an hour to over $20.

Ultium, a joint venture with LG Energy Solution, is key for the automaker to increase its supply of batteries for its growing fleet of electric vehicles.
