The number of homeless students across the five-county region jumped by 4,313 children an increase of 28% throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo combined.
The hundreds of families filing up to pick out presents was just further evidence of a crisis-level state of need in the Bay Area one that no one-time event can fully resolve.
