Santa Barbara High’s boys volleyball team wasn’t going to win the Channel League title without a fight.
And San Marcos gave the Dons all they wanted in their second meeting of the league season at the Thunderhut on Monday night.
Santa Barbara relied on its experience and the one-two punch of Sam Meister and Alex Rottman to overcome a first-set loss with comebacks in sets two and three and beat the Royals, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18.

Middle Cade McLean provided eight kills on 11 swings and opposite Jake Ewart had seven kills.
Hansen Streeter and Colin Earls shared setting duties for the Royals and Ben Newton and Jacob Yinger secured the back row.

Finn Walker led Laguna Blanca with 11 kills and Freddie Russell added six. Miles Sedlin picked up 12 digs.
“We will learn a lot from tonight’s experience, said Laguna Blanca coach Jason Donnelly. We played really well at times but showed some inconsistencies that we will be able to focus on in practice next week.”
Laguna is 2-1 overall and San Marcos is 3-1.

Santa Barbara High used bombing jump serves and the blistering hits of Sam Meister and Alex Rottman to sweep San Marcos in the first crosstown boys volleyball match in more than year Wednesday night at J.R. Richards Gym.
The scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.
The Dons’ powerful serving took the Royals out of system several times and set up overpasses that were pounded or blocked for points. Rottman had four aces and Meister added a pair.
