Blakeley BoatWorks (BBW), the shipbuilding subsidiary of Cooper/T. Smith, has built and delivered an EPA Tier 4-compliant towing vessel to sister company Cooper Marine & Timberlands (CMT). The mv. Gretchen V. Cooper is the United States’ first linehaul towing vessel to be powered by Tier 4 Caterpillar high-speed engines with selective catalytic reduction.
Both Blakeley BoatWorks and Cooper Marine & Timberlands are headquartered within the Port of Mobile, Ala.
The mv. Gretchen V. Cooper measures 110 feet by 33 feet, with a maximum draft of 8.5 feet. The vessel offers 3,400 hp., courtesy of its two Caterpillar C3512E main engines from Thompson Caterpillar.

Plimsoll Marine Takes Delivery of Pushboat Rock Solid

Bayou La Batre, Ala. shipbuilder Master Marine, Inc. (MMI) has delivered the 67’ x 28’ pushboat Rock Solid to Plimsoll Marine. The Rock Solid is the third of four vessels that MMI is scheduled to deliver to the Lower Mississippi River push boat operator.
“The delivery of the Rock Solid marks another milestone in our effort to build and maintain our industry’s most modern and capable fleet of push boats,” said Angus R. Cooper III, President, Cooper/T. Smith. “Our team prides itself on serving our industry as the premier push boat service provider on the Lower Mississippi River and our continued investment in the Plimsoll fleet is a testament to our pledge to always return the highest level of value to our customers.”

Plimsoll Marine, LaPlace, La., took delivery December 11 of the mv. Grain Express from Master Marine Inc., Bayou La Batre, Ala. The 76- by 28-foot towboat is the second of four vessels that Master Marine is scheduled to deliver to Plimsoll; the first was the mv. Iron Lady, delivered in September.
“Plimsoll Marine’s goal is to provide the Lower Mississippi River with premier pushboat services, and the delivery of the Grain Express marks yet another milestone in our effort to build and maintain the industry’s most modern fleet of pushboats,” said Angus Cooper III, president of Cooper/T. Smith, parent company of Plimsoll Marine. “We look forward to operating all four of these new vessels, including the Grain Express, at Cooper Consolidated’s midstream terminals and barge fleets.”
